Ok, so my friend’s mom won’t let her use tampons because she thinks you shouldn’t use tampons until after you have sex because other wise they will be painful. The problem is that my friend has to take dance in school and is required to wear a leotard so she can’t wear a pad. I have been using tampons since the first time I got my period and have had no problems since. So my friend asked me if I could teach her how to use them because she has decided to use them even though her mom has said not to. My question is how can I teach her to use a tampon? When I learned, I was at an overnight soccer tournament and got my first period. I remember having a bunch of my older teammates yelling instructions to me from outside of the bathroom door. It was sort of frustrating at the time but it worked. Should I just tell my friend what to do and offer advice? By the way, my friend and I are both 16 so, I don’t think she should feel guilty about sneaking behind her mom’s back. She isn’t doing anything dangerous, she knows how often to change tampons and is a good kid. Please offer me advice?

She can just read the instructions that come in the box with the tampons and practice by herself. You shouldn’t really need anyone to teach you how to use them. If you do, then you aren’t ready for them.

There are instructions inside the box. Your friend could use those, but if she has problems understanding them-you could do the whole yelling from the other side of the door.
Just cram it in there yourself.
You can teach her by opening a tampon and tell her to put it in half way and then show her to how to push in the applicator in. It’s a pretty simple process. She could look over the instructions beforehand too.
Tampons shouldn’t be painful. If they are painful she could always use the junior size ones.
Tampons are getting easier to use all the time, they have the plastic tube ones which I find slides better then paper.

But yes I remember my first time trying to use one. It was scary as I was a Virgin. It hurt because i was tensing so much. So please tell her to relax.
That’s why we have the whole lesson things about tampons that no one listens to ¬_¬
Just tell her to sorta find ‘the hole’, slip her fingers in, then get the tampon in. It will take hell lota practice to get it right (at least for me it did). People suggest masturbating, because then your muscles are more relaxed and lubricated? I guess that’s a good tip as well.
