The Green Lantern movie costume is going to be a popular item at Halloween this year. Many boys and men will be wearing their personal interpretation of this fascinating character. The recently released movie gives the illusion that the suit is made from light emanating forth from the ring the character wears. The final illusion is that of a tightly fitting second skin that has an almost transparent quality.
A simple way to duplicate this look and feel is to wear a kelly green-shade turtle neck leotard with matching tights. There are some excellent websites promoting these items at very reasonable prices. An undershirt that sculpts the body with its formfitting material will show through the Lycra of the leotard. These can also be purchased online. The color must be as neon-like as possible to give the effect of light.
Black Funtasma boots would be very suitable to virtually complete the outfit. The style of the boot is space-age Gothic. There are about a dozen versions of this to choose from on a well known giant online store. Regular lime green rubber boots bought in a discount store would be effective also.
The character wears a greenish-hued mask. For those who are skillful with body paint one can paint the mask right onto the face. This would be the most comfortable option instead of having to wear an actual mask. The supplies required for painting are a wedge shaped sponge, black, white and Kelly Green face paint from Diamond Effects.
Keeping an image of the mask close at hand to refer to regularly is helpful when duplicating it onto the face. The greenish shade and black are used to fill in the exposed skin areas.Starting off with the greenish-shade the eye area right up to a few inches over the eyebrows is painted in. The white color is used to accentuate more prominent regions of the face. Free tutorial videos are online to help in the shading technique.
A second option for making the mask is to purchase a sheet of greenish foam measuring 12×18 inches from a craft store. You will also need two hard plastic Batman masks that can be purchased from a discount store. The first step is to cut a six inch wide piece of the foam. Place the piece of foam in a preheated 250 degree F. Oven. It can be put straight on the rack.
Remove the drooping foam piece and place onto the eyes of the Batman mask. Cup the second mask over it and press to shape the foam. Trace around the eye holes with a black felt pen. Remove the new mask from between the two Batman masks and trim off the excess material cutting out the two eye holes also. Adhere the mask to the face with a few dabs of spirit gum.
The Green Lantern movie costume also features a ring. This can be purchased from a large chain toy store. For the do it yourself person the ring can be made from wax, wood or even cardboard. A template of the ring can be made first and traced onto cardboard. Once that is cut out it can be bent, glued, and spray painted green.
