Q&A: How to sew ruched front on leotard?
Question by Kat
: How to sew ruched front on leotard?
Well , I bought a black sleeveless leotard online for dance , and instead of getting one with a ruched front like this : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Catsuit-Sleeveless-Ruched-Front-Lycra-Childs-/230444753465?pt=UK_Ladies_Dancewear_LE&var=&hash=item7b669afdce#ht_759wt_905
I got a plain front one like this : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Catsuit-Sleeveless-Plain-Front-Lycra-Childs-/330412977721?pt=UK_Ladies_Dancewear_LE&var=&hash=item7dba93c660#ht_782wt_905
It would be really helpful if someone could give me simple instructions on how to ruch the front – well

You need black thread and a needle. Thread the needle with about 18 inches of thread and knot the ends together to give you a two ply strand. Working on the inside center seam of the bodice, about an inch and a half from the top, insert needle through the seam edge ONLY. Do not bring it through to the outside of the suit yet. Bring the needle out and repeat two or three times to give the thread a good anchor in the inside. THEN bring the needle out to the front. Re-insert it about an eighth of an inch from where it came out, skip about half an inch on the inside of the garment, sew an eighth inch again and repeat this for about three inches. Pull the thread to form the desired gathering to the desired look and repeat the anchoring at the other end on the seam.
Hope I described this well.
