Would you let your daughter dress in outfits like this?
Question by ~babyblue eyes~♥: Would you let your daughter dress in outfits like this?
My daughter attends a gymnastic class and there are always little girls her age practicing for the cheer leading competitions, in training bras and short shorts. My daughter is in a leotard with shorts over it and tennis shoes. I frowned about that but then today we were at the store and a mom had 2 twin girls with her and they were walking around in their sports bras and short shorts with all this makeup on and the girls were prancing and doing all these weird moves and the mom was just shopping and totally ignoring her kids. They were about 5 or 6 years old.
If you guys don’t get what i’m talking about, this is what i’m talking about, their outfits are similar but different colors and style but they are still that short on top: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dijlE6Jtwx4
I don’t know about you, but i would seriously never allow my daughter to wear stuff like that and if it was required we just wouldn’t participate in competitions like that because i’m not going to teach my daughter it’s okay to just walk around like that, much less would i ever let them walk around in public like that. I just don’t think it looks good for kids to walk around with their stomachs showing and dancing inappropriately, but maybe i’m old fashioned.
This also made me peeved to no end but yet the whole time i watched it i kept thinking WOW they are good! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnTyvqYT3Y8 My daughter is in dance class and she actually had her recital a few weeks ago and they were in cute little leotards and tutus and did some cute little dance, nothing like this! I just don’t think that little girls should be doing this or even older girls, because it doesn’t look good. But maybe that’s just me.
Opinions?

Each to their own. I wouldn’t mind it if they are performing. Im sure the little girls you saw in the store just got done with performing onstage if they had on makeup. Its not like they walk around everyday wearing those clothes all of the time, only when they are doing their cheer or dance stuff. LOL
I agree that it’s inappropriate for little girls to dress that way. Hell, it’s inappropriate for teens to dress that way!
I agree about the clothes. It leads to girls thinking that it’s okay to dress like that. My cousin is 8 years old and a little chubby and seeing girls like that actually made her say that she wants to be like the other girls [aka. skinny]. it’s severely depressing for girls to be feeling that pressure that young.
That much cheer seems a bit extensive for a child her age as well.

So, don’t put her in this sort of environment.
I took ballet lessons for years when I was little and there was never anything that involved a stupid or slatternly costume; it was a black leotard and pink tights and that was the end of it. It was exercise, not ribbons in the hair. AFAIK such classes still exist.
If you really don’t condone little girls prancing around in sports bras and doing trashy dances, take your own little girl out of that culture, period.
2nd video pisses me off. Those girls look under 10 and they are wearing such revealing clothing! And they’re dancing a bit provocatively for their age, and to “Single Ladies” for that matter. I can’t even say that they are good dancers because I can’t stand seeing young girls, no children, dance like that..makes me sick
I agree with you on everything. The outfits in the first video weren’t that bad. I would probably let my daughter wear a top like in the first vid during practice but not out in public. We let our kids wear bathing suits but when we are around others who wear bathing suits too. I don’t want my daughter wearing makeup until she is at least 13 or 14. I don’t want my children to feel like they have to wear all this stuff and makeup to make them feel pretty. I agree with you for the most part.
